ICM Document Solutions Supports Clients with ISO Renewal

ICM Document Solutions has earned renewal of its certificate of compliance to the ISO quality system standard ISO 9001:2000.  Why is this so important to clients of ICM?  Because ISO certification means our quality processes are certified to deliver high-quality services each and every time. That’s important to all of our customers including large aerospace firms that demand consistent results.

The ISO 9001:2000 certificate represents an ICM team achievement. The quality objectives, continual improvement and monitoring of customer satisfaction represented by meeting requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard helps assure that ICM adds value and contributes to our customers’ ongoing success.

Harry Schlesselman, our new Quality Manager, was instrumental in the execution of the audit that led to our ISO recertification. Harry brings many years of experience in ISO-related areas as well as a strong background in process quality. If you have quality questions relating to ISO or any ICM process, please let us know.

ICM Expanding Document Management Consulting

ICM Document Solutions has expanded its IT consulting business sector with services for completing Document Management System (DMS) planning projects, including feasibility studies and business case analyses. ICM recently completed a major DMS feasibility study project with the Arizona Department of Administration, Risk Management Division, Property and Liability Section, through the Arizona State IT Consulting Contract.

Customers of ICM Document Solutions that are considering imaging technology may need assistance in identifying the potential costs and benefits of DMS projects they wish to pursue in order to obtain the corporate funding approvals necessary to move forward. Our IT staff, business analysts and technical writers collaborated and work jointly to produce these studies.

The proper alignment of workflow steps and processes, combined with the use of electronic documents and DMS, can produce enormous financial benefits for our customer. This initial consulting project was implemented by Guy Wilson, Director – Business Development at ICM. Guy has been instrumental in developing our consulting business as well as in fostering new partnerships. He previously worked for the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

ICM Document Solutions Growing into New Space

To support current and planned growth of ICM Document Solutions, a new two-story, 3,000-square-foot suite was acquired next door to our corporate headquarters.  An area on the first floor will eventually support the growth of our Production Department. The IT and Sales teams have already moved in and occupy the first and second floors, respectively. There is also a new first-floor customer conference room that will support the IT and Sales teams. Rounding out this new space is a customer greeting and demonstration area. If you are in the area, we welcome you to stop by and see us.

Phil Harrington Keeps ICM Document Solutions Growing

This article excerpt was originally published in the Phoenix Business Journal on May 9, 2008

Arizona-based companies that honestly face the realities of ever-increasing global outsourcing can reap significant rewards. Some Arizona-based businesses have adjusted their business model to take advantage of outsourcing trends. Companies ignoring reality do so at their own peril.

Phil Harrington, CEO and President of ICM Conversions (www.icmconv.com), has stayed ahead of a trend by some customers to outsource low-end document scanning to India. He has converted his 20-year old Phoenix-based document scanning company into a national, ISO-certified, document solutions company.

“In manufacturing and government we must continually demonstrate clear value with our technology, quality and local presence,” says Harrington. “We’ve become more competitive on cost and shifted our emphasis to total document solutions that allow customers to improve their productivity. The total-value formula has made us tough to beat.”

The approach has paid off as ICM grew revenue and earnings by over 25% in 2007, and they expect to grow by 40% in 2008. Rather than compete only on cents-per-page scanning projects, they’re selling complete solutions and higher-value products and services. Current customers like Honeywell, Boeing and the State of Arizona are reaping the benefits, and buying more.

Rod Miller, Vice President of International Economic Development for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (www.gpec.org) concurs. He is a leader in attracting international companies to Arizona, and has a firm grasp on what it will take to continue making Arizona competitive with other states.

“Like the need to attract foreign direct investment to Arizona, we see global outsourcing as a business reality that can support our growth,” says Miller. “Companies here that see the opportunities and that embrace change will help us win in the global marketplace.”

Industries are radically changing as suggested by Thomas Friedman is his 2005 book The World is Flat. Companies must embrace the new reality or risk extinction. Here are suggestions for any Arizona-based company looking to be more competitive in today’s global environment.

  1. Strategize with a clear view. Work hard to see what’s ahead, not just what’s behind. The past is not always the best indicator of how to proceed in the future.
  2. Bring in outside perspectives. You know your business perhaps too well. Outsiders will be able to help you see the reality of the market more clearly.
  3. Take action. Sometimes business owners need to say “no” to the way they’ve always done things. Break free, and reap the benefits.

ICM Updates Branding and Logo

Over the last several months Phil Harrington, CEO and President of ICM has converted his 20-year old Phoenix-based document scanning company into a national, ISO-certified, document solutions company that saves organizations money.  Gaining significant new business with the State of Arizona – including being listed for the first time on the state’s approved IT services vendor list – is another sign that the growth strategy for ICM is working.

“In manufacturing and government we must continually demonstrate clear value with our technology, quality and local presence,” says Harrington. “We’ve shifted our emphasis to total document solutions that allow customers to improve their productivity. The total-value formula has made us tough to beat.  We’re pleased to provide these efficiency-improvements in today’s challenging economic times.”

ICM improves efficiency and reduces a firm’s carbon footprint.  In recognition of their 20-year company anniversary and their new complete business solution, ICM further announces that they’re changing their name to ICM Document Solutions.

“We’re building on our expertise in document scanning to offer total document management solutions”, says CEO Harrington.  “The updated brand positioning of ICM reflects the company’s re-commitment to invest time, talent and resources to helping customers achieve their next level of efficiency in document management.”
